Lakes of the Lakes
In 2019, I’ll be walking around the 18 lakes of the Lake District. It’s a challenge designed to get me into the hills regularly and see more of the District at water’s level.
It’ll involve around 280 km (174 miles) of walking across all four seasons. The walks range from short saunters around the likes of Wet Sleddale, Brothers Water and Loweswater, to more formidable treks around Windermere, Ullswater and Coniston.
Rules of the game
- Complete a circuit of all 18 lakes
- Each lake’s circuit to start and finish in the same place
- Walks must incorporate all four seasons (no leaving everything until Summer)
- Routes must follow recognised paths and stick as close to the lake shores as possible – alternative routes permitted to avoid main roads / private land
